Kendall stood there motionless, as the punching bag teetered on its last few chains. She was angry, full of hostile rage. Her head whipped around as she heard someone coming, but then trembled slightly as she smelled him approaching.

"…Dad?"

Logan regarded the girl closely. He’d expected to find the room empty, having plenty of steam to unleash. He could smell the anger. It might as well have been perfume for how strong it was. “Think you’ve got the wrong guy, kid. I ain’t your dad.” He dropped his bag by the door, striding across the room to one of the opposite punching bags.

"Sad t’say you don’t have the opportunity to save my ass this time around." He mirrored her smile, relaxed. Indicative of years of cohesion and understanding. "Still early yet." Despite the grim humour the feral mutant was grateful for the reprieve.

"Indeed. Perhaps we will see some action before the night is over." Ororo chuckled, soft and low. She walked over to where he sat, sitting next to him companionably. "A fine way to spend the night, wouldn’t you say?"

He rested his head into his palm, rubbing the scruff along his chiseled jaw. No matter how aggravated or dejected he might feel she had an uncanny ability to cheer him up. All she had to do was smile. “If you’re really looking for some action we can always spar in the Danger Room. S’always gets my blood pumpin’ something fierce.”

七転び八起き: Old Ghosts.*

thebestatwhathedoes:

The beating of her heart pumped through his fingers. A pulse ringing through the ages to the present. Words failed to be formed. His throat constricted with shock, relief. A host of emotions he couldn’t begin to discern the true depth of. She remembered. She was here. Really

The questions could wait on his end. It didn’t matter the reason for her proximity. She was with him and he didn’t - wouldn’t let her go. He registered the curiosity, the way she looked at him when she knew there was something on his mind. In their decades apart the synergy hadn’t changed. How could he face this though? How could he look Itsu in the eye and tell her he’d killed their son? How could he stop the fresh torrent of guilt pummel him into the ground?

Logan looked away, oceanic eyes bright with conflicting emotion. There was no hiding something was amiss. He felt his age heap on his shoulders. Rattle in his tired adamantium bones. The feral mutant released her, sinking to the ground, on his knees. His arms rewrapped around her waist, face buried into the folds of her classical dress. Tears began to stain it.

<”Forgive me.”> The man sobbed, a pleading grunt. He didn’t want to fight  it anymore. He was sick of fighting. Sick of battling the weight of his transgressions. Itsu’s arrival was a sign of penance. it didn’t matter if this was predetermined or not. In her he saw his failures made flesh. The wife and child he failed to protect. <”Forgive me.”> He repeated, gazing up at her through depression wracked irises.

"Logan," Ororo smiled, always happy to see one of her dearest friends. "How are you, my friend?"

"No one’s tried t’kill me for a couple of hours. I count that as bein’ a good day so far, ‘Ro. An’ yourself?"
